CRAIGMONT 2010-2011
The
Chiefs in Division 14 AAA with Coach Taylor in his
eighth year at the helm have taken over as the best team
in the north section of the city surpassing Raleigh
Egypt. The loss of some great seniors in Edrick Bruce to
Shaw Community College, Brandon Roberts to school in
Texas, and Terrance Durham to prep school in Chicago
then probably SEMO. Craigmont again this year has
reloaded with another strong athletic group of young men
transforming from the undefeated Craigmont Middle team
of 3 years ago to a very good junior class. Coach Taylor
states he has the best guards in the city and can go the
deepest for any team in the Memphis area. Senior
Antonio Seals
(5'10 - 165 lbs.,
rivals #)
solid summer in a deep guard rotation at Craigmont will
lead all guards with his smart play, ball handling and
good outside shooting to go along with a 3.5 g.p.a. Senior
Rodnerious Lewis
(6'5 - 180 lbs.,
rivals #)
strong inside play grabbing double digit rebounds per
game, defense is very solid on all other teams tallest
players, will definitely make noise in the middle
all season long. Transfer
senior Wale Alkinbola
(6'5 - 190 lbs. diamond in the rough)
from Bartlett will compliment the middle with
Lewis during the season.
Junior Robert Houston
(6'1 - 165 lbs.,
rivals #)
will play large minutes with his strong guard play
coming off a very good summer on the circuit with his
overall knowledge and strong play. Another senior
Kymerly Lezy
(6'4 - 185 lbs., diamond in the rough)
and junior Darius Gibson
(6'6 - 190 lbs.,
rivals #)
will cement the middle with a nice rotation as the
guards give other teams fits with their aggressive play
heading into district play and going into postseason
advancement. Bartlett and Craigmont will battle during the
season and should meet in the District Championship game
and also can play with the other Division AAA
counterparts. Craigmont has won the District 3 out of
the last 4 years, 2 sub state appearances to also
include one state showing at the same time.
The Chiefs will participate
in the annual Martin Luther King Tournament at Melrose
High School. The Chiefs will travel to St. Louis for the
Midwest Shootout on December 11, 2010. They will also attend the
3rd annual
Memphis vs. Atlanta Classic which will have some of the
best talent in the country at this highly touted
classic. Also they will match up against Melrose in the
Penny Hardaway Classic.
Sophomore
Malcolm Taylor
(6'7 - 270 lbs. diamond in the rough)
big frame and great hands will contribute during the
season accordingly. Another strong sophomore is
Sam Craft
(6'0 - 170 lbs. diamond in the rough)
has some of the best hands in the city and therefore
will put in valuable minutes all season long.
Craigmont seems every year that it can easily go 9-10 deep off the bench with
their trademark pressing defense.
