OLIVE BRANCH 2017 - 2018

Olive Branch Conquistadors are in MemphisHoopers.com Preseason Top Ten Poll for the third straight year in a row with this years No. 2 spot making it their highest early season ranking accordingly. Definitely a first for the Quistors as being a top football high school contender year in year out related, "per say" North Mississippi schools. Football is the top sport in the state of Mississippi but Olive Branch has experienced growing success in basketball even with the school dropping down in classification from 6A to 5A and what will that mean or translate as the season progresses.

The Conquistadors field a roster of young men that have played together on a high school level together since freshman intro, excluding summer circuit activity in accordance with high expectations for this ball club. Coach Eric Rombaugh in his twelfth year at the high school (7 years as head boys coach) will have the services of D.J. Jeffries, a first for the high school being nominated as a McDonald's All American candidate. Their 2017-2018 schedule is one of the most unique/diversified basketball calendars in the region that includes a little bit of everything across the board.

Junior D.J. Jeffries (6'8 - 215 lbs., espn #19) one of the top premier players in the nation and also a candidate for many national accolades will lead this relatively young ball club and a lock for No. 1 in coming polls. Coach Rombaugh says, Jeffries "surprises me everyday" on and off the court with this young man stepping up to the fore front showing strong leadership and super hungry for anything/everything presented before him. This young man will be the top rebounder and scorer in the region with high expectations all season long en route to postseason action via Jackson, Mississippi. Junior Joe Cooper (6'0 - 165 lbs.) is one of the most solid point guards with a overall toughness on both sides of the ball. Cooper displays great court decision as the floor general during all entire game and handles the ball with a high assist to turnover ratio which ranks him in the top ten state wide.

Sophomore Cameron Matthews (6'7 - 210 lbs.) who came off the bench last year has stepped up his game over the break having a super strong summer. Matthews is very strong around the rim and also getting to the rim which in return gets a lot of rebounds while doing all the dirty work accordingly. Senior Kelvin Allen (6'2 - 185 lbs.), the only senior on the ball club and a strong lefty that is the most athletic player on the ball club with elbow around the rim type action that allows the flow of the ball game in transition produce smooth motion during basketball games.

Junior Josh Stevenson (6'3 - 215 lbs.) has very high basketball I.Q. and knows where to position his self at all times when point guard Cooper is under high pressure. He compliment the 2 guard position extremely well and is slick athletic at the same time. Sophomore Wes Tyler (5'11 - 160 lbs.) is another high energy player who is silky smooth and also a great defender who will garner many minutes off the bench all season long. Juniors Shamar Brown (6'6 - 195 lbs.) and C.J. Owens (6'2 - 155 lbs.) are two players that can do a little bit of everything and easily be put in the starting line up for the Conquistadors who will not miss a beat with this very deep ball club. Watch out Folks!!!!

Olive Branch Conquistadors will start off the season Thanksgiving weekend Nov. 24 going right up the street to Corinth, Mississippi for the 5t Annual Light House Classic playing against Madison Prep from Baton Rogue, Louisiana. They travel the nest week Dec. 2, 2017 to the infamous Marshall County Hoop Fest and play vs. Adair County, Kentucky. Dec. 7 they host Whitehaven at Olive Branch in a nice matchup. Dec. 9, 2017 they ride right up the street again, this time to Memphis to participate in the first annual Memphis vs. the World event on the new Grind Session which has made a lot of early season acclaim nationally. Dec. 16 they travel down south to Columbus, Mississippi and tip off against Columbus High and (Miss. St. commit) Robert Woodard.

They start off 2018 the new year with nationally ranked No.1 Memphis East at Olive Branch in another big boy home game on Jan. 5, 2018. Next day Jan. 6, 2018 they play in the Penny Hardaway Classic vs. White Station. Jan. 12 & 15, 2018 they travel down Interstate 55 2 times in 72 hours to Jackson, Mississippi first game vs. Provine then the second date vs. Forest Hill. They finish off this awesome whirlwind 2017-2018 schedule Jan. 27, 2108 in New Albany, Mississippi against TBA.
