Whitehaven High is one of the top high schools not only in Memphis but the country “Hands Down – Ten Fold”” with all around great academics, athletics across the board, state of the art Stem facility like no other leads the way in many ways respectively. The Tigers Basketball program under the leadership of 2nd year coach Wille Kemp – a University of Memphis four year starter, 10 years playing professionally, and an assistant coach at Lemoyne Owen College respectively. Coach Kemp yields a senior laden team with some of the top key transfers in the city and statewide respectively with season high expectations this upcoming 2024 – 2025 high school basketball season and the Tigers come in at No. 1 in the MemphisHoopers.com Preseason Top Ten Rankings for the first time in Hoopers, with the school embracing a rich football history.
The Tigers have one of the best big men in the region, 6’8 senior Bob Dickson, one of the top aggressive rebounders in the city, runs the court extremely well and helps all over the floor at all times. 6’2 senior Cameron Brown, a transfer, is one of the top shooters and offensive players in the city “who Coach Kemp states is a major sleeper to keep an eye on. 6’4 senior Marquez Butler is one of the top players in the city that can excel at all positions in strong fashion at any time and also one of the top defenders with his long build plus great anticipation. A two-sport player and another transfer is 6’2 senior Jarmon Brittman who plays at a high level at all times on the court who possesses a junior man child that plays like a dog on both sides of the basketball.
Senior 6’0 Kenton Smith plays the guard position, facilitates as a true point guard, and brings tenacious defense on the opponents top scorer. Senior 6’0 Marius Harris who has gotten stronger over the summer who might be a sleeper and arguably one of the best shooters on the team, not the city right yet but this high school basketball season should silence the critics. Another senior is 6’8 transfer Rashad Bryant, a natural athlete from Birmingham, Alabama that runs the floor fluently and will be a major contributor on both sides of the ball all season long. Underclassmen, sophomore Eric Winston and freshman Austin Towsel to make notice must make when their names are called off the bench.
Whitehaven Tigers have a modest schedule with the first event November 29th – 30th in Dallas, Texas at the Nike Hoops. The month of December they have two major national events on tap with the first one the first week of December the 6th and 7th in Marshall, Kentucky at the prestigious Marshall County Hoopfest. December 28th they travel to Nashville, Tennessee for the Iverson Classic and opponents will be announced at a later date accordingly. A week later they participated in the Memphis Hoopfest January 3rd thru the 4th. They finish their travel schedule with the Dr. Pepper Classic January 21st thru the 25th in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
