Houston High established in 1989, one of the newer high schools in Shelby County definitely made exhibited major strides academically / athletically “Ten Fold” winning state championships in multiple sports: baseball, basketball, football and soccer respectively. The Mustangs basketball program under third year veteran coach Ron Sabau with over twenty years of coaching possesses a very strong extensive resume on the high school and college level. Assistant coach at Rhodes College from 2002-2007 and multiple high school stops at Lausanne, Millington, St. Benedict, Germantown. Mustangs roster was already one of the best and strongest in the city but a late summer addition in transfer Jacob Walker from state champions FACS just bolstered high expectations overall, whom never played a basketball game in a Mustang uniform after transferring to Sunrise Christian Academy in Kansas but still a Hoopers favorite. Senior 6’6 Keron Jackson who can play all positions from the 1 to the 5 on both ends of the court defensively and offensively on both ends of the court who will make mucho noise, a strong teammate player that runs the floor with great court vision, aggressive at all times. Another senior is 6’0 senior Caleb Jeffries who plays all over the court with strong leadership skills and will contribute all season. 6’4 junior Collin Bland who plays at a high motor and one of the top defenders on the team, a stat stuffer across the board in all categories who is a very good baseball player. 6’1 sophomore sensation Justin Frison the younger brother of Overton High School state champs who presently plays at Pittsburg State. Justin is a top facilitator hands down who can finish in the paint with the best in the tri state area. Another solid sophomore is 6’7 Jordan Miller who is an elite shooter from all locations on the court that has great size and hands in tandem. Other players that will have many opportunities all season long 5’11 junior Will Ballard who is also considered a true point guard with solid court vision. 6’0 senior Adrian Phillips is a scorer that comes off the bench with a Vinnie Johnson prototype. The Mustangs have a nice travel schedule with stops in Indianapolis, Indiana -Mitchell, South Dakota, Chattanooga, Tennessee – n St. Louis, Missouri.
